Two-Year-Old Preschool (2s) Program

At McGill Learning Center, our Two-Year-Old Preschool (2s) program is designed to support children at a vital stage of growth. Around the age of two, children are discovering their independence, learning to communicate more clearly, and exploring the world around them through active play and social interaction. We provide a warm, structured environment where each child feels safe, seen, and supported as they grow.

A Nurturing Start for Curious Two-Year-Olds

Each day brings opportunities for learning through play—whether it’s building with blocks, painting at the easel, or singing songs during circle time. These experiences encourage creativity, language development, and early problem-solving skills. Teachers gently guide children through simple routines, helping them understand the flow of the day and preparing them for preschool structure. We focus on important milestones like learning to express needs, taking turns, and following basic directions.

Social-emotional growth is a key part of this stage. Our teachers model kindness, patience, and how to navigate big feelings. Children learn how to share, show empathy, and be part of a group while still feeling recognized as individuals. We also support early self-help skills like washing hands, cleaning up toys, and sitting at the table with friends.

Faith and values are woven into our days through simple prayers, songs, and stories. We help children begin to understand God’s love and how they are wonderfully made. This early foundation in faith and learning sets the stage for growth in all areas—physical, emotional, social, and spiritual.

What a Day Looks Like in the 2s Classroom

In the Two-Year-Old Preschool (2s) classroom, every day is thoughtfully planned to support young learners in a predictable, nurturing setting. We begin with a warm welcome and time for free play, where children explore materials like puzzles, pretend play items, and sensory bins. This helps them warm up and engage in activities at their own pace.

Circle time follows, where teachers introduce simple songs, stories, and activities that promote listening and language. We also include faith-based moments like short prayers or Bible stories. This shared group time helps children begin learning how to be part of a classroom community.

Throughout the day, children enjoy a mix of active play and restful moments. Outdoor play happens daily, giving children the space to run, climb, and explore nature. Inside, we focus on activities that build fine motor skills and creativity, like painting, stacking, and matching games. Snack and lunch times are done in a family-style manner, promoting social interaction and self-help skills like using utensils and cleaning up.

Rest time allows for quiet, calming moments to recharge. Afterward, children return to play-based learning before heading home. Teachers offer support with transitions throughout the day, using songs and gentle reminders to help children move smoothly from one activity to the next.

How We Support Growth in Every Child

At McGill Learning Center, our Two-Year-Old Preschool (2s) program is built to support each child’s development across all areas—social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual. We recognize that every two-year-old is unique. Some are eager to explore, others need extra time to warm up. Our trained teachers take time to get to know each child and build a relationship of trust and safety.

Social-emotional growth is a daily focus. Children at this age are learning to express big emotions, and we help guide them with simple language, comforting routines, and clear expectations. Teachers model how to name feelings, use words instead of actions, and care for others with kindness and patience. This helps children begin to build healthy friendships and understand their place in a group.

Cognitive and language development are supported through story time, music, imaginative play, and hands-on exploration. We ask open-ended questions, describe actions and choices, and celebrate attempts at new words. For physical development, we offer opportunities for climbing, jumping, drawing, and stacking—activities that strengthen both large and small muscles.

Spiritually, we begin laying a gentle foundation. We share God’s love through songs, mealtime prayers, and stories about kindness and compassion. Children hear that they are wonderfully made and deeply loved.

We also value strong family partnerships. Parents receive daily updates and are always welcome to check in, ask questions, or share about their child. When families and teachers work together, we can better support a joyful, confident transition into early learning.
